The magic of newborns
So, I feel WAY behind on this blog. I've been meaning to blog about all of the "firsts" we've had this summer...Amelia took her first steps on the day Charlie got his first haircut (end of July..) How we are pretty sure Amelia's first word is Dog. Or Daddy. Or Bobby. How Charlie started crawling about 20 minutes after my parents left when they visited in mid July. And now the first big road trip with just Mommy. We went to Bay Center for Labor Day weekend, just the three of us, as Daddy was deep in the woods trying to catch a big critter to fill the freezer. We were lucky enough to meet Collette Durant during this visit and it occured to me how just one year ago, Charlie and Amelia were actually smaller than Collette. And she seemed SOOOOO tiny! So. It's just another reminder of how fast the time is flying....and how my babies are practically toddlers. And soon they will be preschoolers. And then before we know it....they'll be off to college (we can only hope...) or moving to the big city, or married. Or something. Ack!
So, I gotta post a few tiny baby pics. Please bear with me.

First Bandaid
Popcicles!
Our first popcicles. Amelia figured it out right away and loved it. Until she got a little too sticky. Charlie really didn't want much to do with it. Didn't actually eat any of it. Just smeared it around and sucked on the wood stick. As you can imagine it was straight into the bath after that. But what's better than a popcicle on a 100+ degree day??
Crawling!
Charles Robe has finally caught up with his sister and is crawling. Amelia started about a month ago and has been exploring ever since. Charlie just started yesterday and life has already changed again. All of a sudden we have to keep up with two on the move. He is exploring all the same territory Amelia has already covered. I can hardly imagine what it will be like when they are walking/running everywhere!!
Vacation!
We took our first big Thompson Family vacation in the first week of July. We traveled the state of Montana with our new (to us) travel trailer. The kids did great. Real troopers. They met a lot of our great old friends and family. We left Pendleton on July 9th and stayed at Trout Creek Campground just outside Superior, Montana the first night. Then it was to Bozeman for two nights. We stayed with Paul Bierman in his beautiful home with a view out every window. We spent time with old friends Travis and Amber, Aaron and Curt's Aunt Stephanie and Cousin Jesse and her family came to visit from Billings. Then to Big Sky for a night with Tyler and Jill and thier two sweet little boys. Chas showed up to, and after the kids went to bed we enjoyed some adult time old school style. Then to Holland Lake where we met up with Meg and had a fun night camping. It was there she named the kids Hamhock and Chill. Then up to Columbia Falls to finally meet Great Grandma Thompson and Great Uncles Dick and Bobby. Grandma had a great time interpreting for the kids. "Amelia just said Hello!" "Charlie just said I love you!" It was really special, and so worth all the driving. After two nights there we spent another day on the road and ended up at Hayden Lake, ID. A quite night of camping, and a stop at Cabelas in Post Falls rounded out the trip. It was a great trip. Next trip will be a whole new experience with all the new found mobility of the kids.
Nicknames
I'm afraid our little nuggets have too many nicknames. We have a habit of this anyway...just ask our poor dogs. I thought I better list them all before we forget some: Chaz and Mimi (Mommy's favorites), Cheech and Mimsy (Aunt Karen), Hamhock and Chill (Thanks Meg!), The Wrecking Ball and The Chizzle (WWF names), Mr. Sensitive and Babygirl, Hurricane Amelia and Tropical Storm Charlie (this one came at bath time...for obvious reasons) Sissy and Mr. Man (Daddy's favorites). Daddy also thinks it's funny to call Charlie "Skeeterbait". I'm not so sure about that one! I think that's about it...but I could be missing some. Oh well there's plenty to choose from here!

Grandma and Grandpa Texas are here!
Charlie and Amelia finally get to meet Grandma and Grandpa Thompson. It was totally worth the wait for this visit. Amelia was really excited to help Grandpa park the RV. The best part was honking the horn. And Grandma Judy is great with the kids, helping out with feeding, diapering, playing and snuggling. To be all together on Father's Day is a real treat. Aunt Riley and Uncle Sarah even popped in for a quick hello.

Content to hang out.
Charlie can roll and get around, but doesn't feel the need most of the time. Unlike his sister, he is happy to sit and hang out and play with his toys for long periods. He gets up on all fours and rocks, so we know crawling is not far off.
On the Go!
Amelia is always on the go. She is not quite crawling yet...well sometimes backwards...but she can sure get around. And she likes to explore. She will get herself into places and then get mad cause she can't get out. She also is getting four new teeth at once...two top and two more on the bottom. Yeeeeooooooow!!

10 bucks and a little water...
The wonders of the simple kiddie pool. Charlie and Amelia LOVE it! And we love it too...a 1/2 hour of wild splashing in the pool in the late afternoon makes bedtime a snap.

My how things have changed!

And in this corner...

Yesterday the kids were having a grand old time playing together. They were sitting toe to toe and Charlie was trying to grab the sparkley hearts on Amelia's I heart Mom shirt. She would lean down and grab his hand and seriously try to bite it and then laugh hysterically! She cracks herself up a lot. She never really got him. It will be scary when they have mouths full of teeth!
Chunky Monkeys!

So, I weighed the children yesterday. Amelia Marie weighs in at a bruising 26.5 pounds. As you might guess she enjoys just about any kind of food you put in front of her. It really is about the cutest thing you've ever seen when she gets to chowing. The girl loves to eat. Charles Robe comes in at a whopping 25 pounds even. He is a little pickier with food. He doesn't really like to pick food up himself, but will usually eat it once you stick it in his mouth. Although he will squish avocado or banana in his little fingers, so it's not like he doesn't want to get his hands down and dirty. He always makes a face like you're trying to poison him, but usually will mush it up with his three teeth and swallow. He makes a lot of yum yum noises when eating his yogurt or cereal or whatever is on the day's menu. Feeding time is messy, but generally pretty fun.

Mushroom Pickin'
Yesterday we loaded the kids in their new car seats and headed for the hills, looking for Morels. Only found a few - but it was just enough for a great Sunday morning omelet! Charlie and Amelia had fun, checking out all kinds of new stuff. We are now realizing all the things we can start doing with them. It will be time for swimming pretty soon!
