Amelia started walking just before their first birthday in August. Charlie followed about a month later. Since then our house is an ever changing landscape. Locks on the cabinets, doors always closed down the hall and anything that is not suitable to be chewed on or thrown to the ground has been put up high. They have freakishly long arms now...there is no safe spot even in the middle of the coffee table and the edges of dining room table are within easy reach now too. The best part is listening to them talk. Why do kids love the phone so much? For Charlie everything is a phone...his toy hammer, the Cat in the Hat's tail, a spoon ~ he also has a strange fascination with spoons ~....you name it. Curt and I both swear he said awesome the other day during an important phone call from Santa. He has a lot to say....and I know it all makes sense to him. I'm looking forward to when I can understand it all too! Little Miss also has a lot to say. Curt says he heard her say Mommy today. I missed it, but did get a Mama while changing her diaper this morning! She also says no, hi, okay, dog, uh-oh and a few other things. I cracked up one day Beth asked Amelia if it's really uh-oh when you do it on purpose.
Both kids know animal sounds and body parts pretty well. For a while when we would ask Amelia what a cow says she would just go "mmmmmmmm", but now she has added the o's. Of course we think they are brilliant. We want them to talk, but we are enjoying each stage so much we don't want to rush anything. We do communicate pretty well with sign language - Milk, all done, hungry, diaper, etc.
So....what else...they are expert kiss blowers and dog petters. They love to take baths and brush their teeth. They pretend drink out of everything. Sharing is not natural for Amelia...she still tries to get all the toys no matter what. Charlie will sometimes just wait until she's bored with whatever she just stole from him, but he's also learning to stand his ground a bit too. And they are starting to follow directions....sort of.
This last year has pretty much been the best time of my life. I am still amazed daily at our tremendous luck - perfectly healthy and adorable boy girl twins...we could not be happier with our little family. So maybe I'll try to blog more often now so I don't have to write a novel to get caught up. We'll see how that goes I guess. That's it for now. Over and out...
